The casualities of faith in political and cultural wars are not martyers as we are led to believe but all of us swept up in the mad intoxication of a national propaganda that creates a reality divorced from truth. Here applies Santyana's dictum that those who know nothing of history are bound to repeat it. It has been said that the folly of the clever is greater than that of the dull. Is it any wonder that Cheney, Rumsfield, Rice, Wolfe and Ashcroff have such sway over a president who doesn't read because he has a direct line to an omnipotent sky god? The Reverend Pat Robertson's comment referring to President George as "the emperor" who enjoy's the "blessing of heaven" is truly frightening because by all account Bush believes it. For our part I suppose that that we can rest assured that the Good Lord is up to date, linguistically speaking, when He personally told Robertson that Iraq could get "messy." It is no wonder that the Muslim world thinks that The US invasion of its lands is an other holy crusade.
